Not much is known about the angel known as M'ken. He is old enough to not even remember how old he actually is. He was created many eons ago with most other angels in existence, including the ones who would later 'fall' and become the demons they are today. In the beginning, they were just servants of god, messengers sent to help the newly sentient humans on their way in their lives, only to interfere when things veered off the path of the divine. He existed for many millenia serving the Lord and the kingdom of Heaven. It was during this time that he found an eternal loving bond with a fellow angel named Beelzebub and the two were inseperable.
This of course was before Lucifer branched off and began his never ending battle with God for the souls of the righteous. It started off quietly. A whisper to an angel here and there snowballed into a war of words that separated the kingdom of Heaven down the center. M'Ken found himself on the opposite side of his lover much to his heartache. But this was when the warring started. After the fall...
Never before was there a need for warrior angels, but Lucifer was not about to play fair. M'Ken was part of a group of fathful chosen by God to lead his army should the war ever come to Earth, as one of the angel's to be blessed with advanced knowledge of war. M'Ken accepted his newfound duties, maybe out of some naive assumption that he could win Beelzebub back if he fought hard enough, defeated back the evils that corrupted his mind. It would unfortunately not be that simple.
But much to the lord's chagrin, the devil himself had already infected enough of the human race with the evils in his own blackened heart, and many wars began to rage on all continents. Wars over land. Wars over supplies and food. But mostly, wars over which had the correct interpretation of the divine, whose faith was the right one. In actuality, everyone was partly right in their beliefs, and partly wrong as was to be expected, but Lucifer leapt at the chance to twist their insecurities into hatred and led to bickering between them which would eventually lead to war. The members of God's army had a new responsibility to accept. They would protect the souls of the innocent caught in the struggle, and try to save as many lives as they could caught in the crossfire during times of war.
For many centuries, M'ken did just that. Hundreds of battles, hundreds of wars. He'd enter as the mysterious stranger that just happened to be passing by to save a civilian caught in the crossfire, put himself in harms way just to help a platoon to safety, and for many years he'd do it without getting too caught up in it other than the joy he recieved from doing good. Then the second World War happened.
Adolf Hitler imprisoned so many people, killed so many... Lucifer whispered into his ear many devilish things claiming he was doing good, but really Lucifer was just trying to collect souls. At one point the battle was so grim that many of the angels were just told to collect as many wayward souls as they could to bring them to Heaven and ensure them a happy afterlife. The angelic warriors however would take a more aggressive stance and try to protect the living as much as possible. M'ken allowed himself to become particularly invested in his cause. Not only were Jews being taken away, but anyone different from the Aryan vision, including homosexuals. It didn't sit well with him that people were being killed for being who God made them. During the war, He'd find himself face to face with someone he hadn't seen in a long time much to his own sadness. Beelzebub.
Realizing that he couldn't fight the whole war by himself (and not wanting to face his former love on the battlefield), M'ken instead founded a safehouse hidden in the hills, taking in anyone persecuted by the Nazi's and hiding them for the duration of the war. A few angels aided him and fought off the demonic Nazi hordes when they'd try to invade, and they were quite successful for a time.
During this time, M'ken also got very comfortable around the humans, becoming particularly close with a young Jewish man named Mikael Wagner. He allowed himself to love this man to forget about the love lost with Beelzebub he may never get back, and the man loved him, and he stayed with him until the war was over. But seeing all of the death, and having known humans before, he knew there would come a day when Mikael would grow old and resent him for not being able to age with him. So he told him a little lie, despite wanting to stay. He told him that he was being called back to Heaven and could no longer be with Mikael, when in actuality he just wanted Mikael to live a normal life. And so he left and never looked back.
Over the years to come on Earth it seemed humans never learned their lessons. Vietnam. Iraq. The twin towers. ISIS. More people falling victim to the lies being spread by the underworld thinking they were doing the work of the righteous. It was ezhausting. M'Ken (now going by the name Kenneth) realized that he would never win completely. He could never save everyone. He was exhausted. Although he still keeps in touch with the other angels, he would rather stay out of their affairs now because they only bring him heartache. He lives in DC to be close to the action if he is ever needed to be called upon again, but these days he just lives his life as a normal human working as a bartender, reluctant to jump into the fray again and questioning if all of his work until now has been worth it.
